AI game maker: describe a game, play it, change it

What is an AI game maker? It is software that turns a description of a game into a playable game. Shiny Gen is an AI game maker for the browser, iPhone, iPad, and Android: you describe a game, play it, and edit its assets, code, and world with built-in AI tools. Games are real projects you own, on a real engine (the Godot engine, or one of five retro engines we built), and it is free to start.

What you can make

Games made and played in Shiny Gen range from small arcade games to 3D worlds. A few from the free catalogue, each of which you can play and remix into your own copy:

How Shiny Gen works

  1. Open it. Go to shinygen.ai/play in any modern browser, or install the app from the App Store or Google Play. Sign up for a free account.
  2. Start a game. Press +, choose New, and pick an engine (Godot, GBA, GBC, N64, GameCube, or DS).
  3. Describe it. In the Agent tab, say in plain words what the game is, how it is controlled, and how you win.
  4. Watch it get built and tested. The agent writes the code, runs the game, takes screenshots, presses the controls, reads errors, and fixes them. It can also make images, 3D models, animations, sound effects, and music for the game.
  5. Change it by talking. Keep chatting to adjust the game, or edit the assets and code by hand, which costs nothing.
  6. Share it. Share gives a link anyone can open in a browser. Exporting a game as a file needs any one purchase, from $2.99.

What the AI makes for you

Beyond the game code, the built-in editors generate and edit images and sprites, sprite animations from video models, 3D models, meshes, and worlds, and sound effects and music as editable scores. Shiny Gen uses leading third-party models, including Claude and Gemini, across image, video, audio, music, and 3D generation. You can also connect your own assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, through a hosted MCP server (how), and the code it writes costs no gems.

Engines and platforms

Games run on the Godot engine in real GDScript, or on one of five engines we built for retro-style games: GBA, GBC, N64, GameCube, and DS. Retro games compile to a file you can download (a ROM, a GameCube .dol, or a DS .nds; downloading needs any one purchase, from $2.99). They are games you make in Shiny Gen: it is not an emulator and cannot play commercial or third-party ROMs. See the six engines.

Shiny Gen runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks (the first load is about 17 MB, with nothing to install), and as an app on iPhone, iPad, and Android.

FAQ

What is an AI game maker?

An AI game maker turns a description of a game into a playable game. Shiny Gen is one: you describe a game in plain language, an AI agent builds it on a real engine, plays it to find bugs, and fixes them, and you keep changing it by chat.

Is Shiny Gen free?

Making, playing, sharing, and remixing games is free, with no subscription required. AI generation uses gems. Any one purchase, from a $2.99 starter pack, also unlocks exporting your games as files.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You describe the game in plain words and the agent writes the code. If you do want to code, the game is real GDScript that you can read and edit in the app for free.

What devices does Shiny Gen run on?

Any modern browser, plus the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps. The web app is the desktop version, so there is no desktop install. On a Mac with Apple silicon, the iPad app also installs from the Mac App Store.

Can I sell a game I make with Shiny Gen?

Yes. You own what you make and Shiny Gen takes no revenue share (Terms of Service, section 4). A common route is to export for the web and sell it on a site such as itch.io; exporting needs any one purchase, from $2.99.
